iPhone 12 repair in Singapore, and what “glass replacement” really means

The iPhone 12 line is four phones with one thing in common: an OLED screen under a Ceramic Shield front that can still crack. This page answers the questions people actually search — what glass replacement costs, what “housing replacement” means, what to do about a tired 12 mini battery — and how to read a quote.

Which iPhone 12 do you actually have?

The iPhone 12 range is four phones, not one, and the difference matters the moment a part is ordered. All four launched in 2020 with flat edges, a Ceramic Shield front, MagSafe, an OLED display, a Lightning port and an IP68 rating from Apple. What separates them is size and cameras.

  • iPhone 12 mini. 5.4-inch screen, two rear lenses, aluminium frame.
  • iPhone 12. 6.1-inch screen, two rear lenses, aluminium frame.
  • iPhone 12 Pro. 6.1-inch screen, three rear lenses beside a black LiDAR scanner, stainless-steel frame.
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max. 6.7-inch screen, the same three-lens layout, stainless-steel frame.

The trap is the 12 and the 12 Pro, which are the same size. Count the lenses: two means a 12 or a mini, three means a Pro or Pro Max. Settings, General, About shows the full Model Name, and that is the line to give any shop you message.

The neighbours look similar. The iPhone 11 has rounded edges and an LCD. The iPhone 13 is nearly identical from the front; turn it over, because the 12 and 12 mini stack their two lenses one above the other while the 13 and 13 mini set theirs diagonally. We identify the exact model before we quote, every time.

What an iPhone 12 repair costs here

Our standing bands for the iPhone 12 family are the ones we publish for every OLED iPhone in the X, 12 and 13 generations:

  • Screen replacement: from around S$110 to S$380.
  • Battery replacement: from around S$80 to S$150.

Where a phone lands depends on the model, on whether you choose a genuine-grade or a quality aftermarket part where a real choice exists, and, for screens, on which kind of repair you need. That last one moves the number most, so it has its own section next. The wider picture is in our iPhone repair cost guide.

Everything else is quoted, not guessed. Back glass, housing and frame work, camera, Face ID, charging port, water damage and board-level repair are quoted by model after a free diagnosis. A figure given before a phone has been opened is a guess. Diagnosis is free for walk-ins, the quote is in writing before any work begins, and if we cannot fix the phone you do not pay a repair fee.

Glass replacement cost: the question behind the question

“iPhone 12 glass replacement cost” is a slippery question, because shops use the word glass for two different jobs at two different prices.

Glass-only repair

On an OLED iPhone the cover glass is bonded to the panel behind it. A glass-only repair separates the cracked glass from the panel and bonds a fresh sheet on in its place, keeping your original OLED, touch layer and cables. Done well, it is the cheaper route. It needs specialist equipment, and it only works when the OLED underneath is undamaged: no coloured lines, no dark patches, no dead strips of touch. If the panel took the impact too, glass-only is not available at any price.

Full display assembly replacement

The whole unit, glass, OLED and touch layer, comes out and a new assembly goes in. It is the right repair when the panel is damaged, and the only one when glass-only is ruled out. The parts cost more and the job is simpler. Where a real choice exists we offer genuine-grade and quality aftermarket assemblies and say which is which.

Why you should ask which one you are being quoted

A low price for “glass” and a higher one for “screen” can both be honest and still not be comparable. Separating glass from an OLED is delicate work, and a panel that is already stressed can fail during it. A shop quoting glass-only should say so, and say in writing what the fall-back costs.

Our standing screen band runs from around S$110 to S$380, and the width of that range is the answer in miniature: model, part grade and type of repair all move it. The exact figure comes in writing after the free diagnosis and says which repair it covers. The same bench does iPhone screen replacement across every model.

When the problem is the display, not the glass

Plenty of iPhone 12s arrive with a cracked screen that is otherwise fine, and plenty with an uncracked screen that is not. The glass is only the visible part. These point at the OLED panel or its connection:

  • coloured or white lines across the picture, or a green or pink tint;
  • dark, inky patches that spread, or a flicker;
  • touch that is dead in one strip, or taps you did not make.

Rule out the free causes first. Force restart: press volume up, then volume down, then hold the side button until the Apple logo appears. Take off the screen protector, which blocks touch more often than people expect. Dry the screen and your hands. If the fault survives all three, the phone needs opening. A fault that began after a drop is sometimes a display connector knocked loose rather than a dead panel, and that is a far smaller job. It is exactly what a free diagnosis is for.

Face ID after a screen repair

Every iPhone 12 unlocks with Face ID, and people nervous about a screen repair are usually nervous about that. Done properly, it keeps working.

The Face ID sensors, with the front camera, earpiece and proximity sensor, sit in the notch at the top of the display but are not part of the OLED panel. The Face ID hardware is paired to your individual phone, so the original sensor assembly is moved across from the old display to the new one, carefully, rather than replaced.

That transfer is where careless repairs go wrong: a torn flex, a knocked sensor, a connector not seated. The symptoms are Face ID refusing to set up, a screen that stays lit against your ear on a call, a dead earpiece, or a black front camera. Ask any shop to show you all of them working before you pay. If Face ID has stopped after a repair elsewhere, or after a drop, our iPhone Face ID repair page sets out which causes are small and which are not.

Battery: the 12 mini, the Pro Max and everyone in between

The iPhone 12 is six years old, and for most owners the battery is the repair that matters. Open Settings, Battery, Battery Health & Charging. Maximum Capacity shows how much charge the cell holds compared with new, and Apple treats a battery as consumable below 80 per cent. Below that, iOS can also slow the phone to stop it shutting down under load, which is why an ageing 12 feels sluggish before it feels short of charge. A fresh battery fixes both.

The 12 mini

The mini has the smallest battery in the range, so the same day of use takes a bigger share of it and the phone is charged more often. More charges means more cycles sooner, so a mini tends to show its age earlier than a 12 or a Pro used the same way.

The 12 Pro Max

The Pro Max has the largest cell of the four, which hides a tired battery for longer. It ages the same way, though, and the slowdown feels the same when it arrives. A Pro Max battery job sits in the same band as the rest of the family, from around S$80 to S$150, with the exact figure quoted after a free diagnosis.

If the screen is lifting at an edge, stop. A screen rising away from the frame, a gap you can catch with a fingernail, or a phone that rocks on a table can mean a swollen battery. Stop charging it, do not press the screen back down, keep it away from heat, and bring it in.

After a battery replacement not done through Apple’s own system, iOS may show a message in Settings under General, then About, and Maximum Capacity may display as unavailable. That is iOS checking parts, not a fault in the new cell, and we tell you before we start. More on our iPhone battery replacement in Singapore page.

Housing replacement, bent frames and the back glass

“iPhone 12 housing replacement” means different things to different people, so here is what it means on a bench.

The housing is the frame: the metal band, the structure everything bolts into, and the glass back joined to it. Replacing it means moving every working part, from logic board and battery to cameras and buttons, out of the damaged frame and into a new one. It is a transplant, and one of the larger jobs on an iPhone 12 short of board-level work.

It is considered when the frame is bent by a hard corner drop or by being sat on. The signs are a screen that sits proud at one corner, a gap along an edge, a SIM tray that no longer slides, or sticking side buttons. A mild bend is sometimes corrected without replacing anything; creased metal is not. The same symptoms can come from a swollen battery, so if the phone has been hot or the screen is lifting, treat it as a battery problem first.

A cracked back on a straight frame is a different job. From the iPhone 8 onward the rear glass is laser-welded to the frame, so removing it cleanly needs a laser and heat, and the repair is the glass, not the housing. See iPhone back glass replacement. Both are quoted by model after a free diagnosis.

Charging: the Lightning port, MagSafe and what to test first

The iPhone 12 charges two ways: by cable through the Lightning port, and wirelessly through MagSafe, the magnetic ring on the back. When one stops working, the other is your best clue.

  • Cable works, MagSafe does not. The port is fine. Check the case first, since a thick, metal-lined or card-holding one can stop charging, then the charger’s own cable and power adapter, and that the phone sits flat and centred.
  • MagSafe works, cable does not. Suspect the port, but try another cable and look for lint first.
  • Neither works. The fault is further in, at the battery or charging circuit, and worth a free diagnosis.

The usual reason a cable will not seat on a phone that has lived in a pocket is lint packed into the port. Do not dig at it with a pin: the contacts bend easily, and a scraped port is a harder repair than a dirty one. A proper clean is often the whole fix, and we do it as part of the free diagnosis. If it still charges only at an angle, see iPhone charging port repair.

Water damage: IP68 is a factory seal, not a lifetime promise

Apple rates the iPhone 12 family IP68, and the rating is real: these phones are built to survive splashes and brief dunks. But it was earned in a laboratory by a phone that left the factory sealed, and Apple itself says water resistance is not permanent and can reduce with wear. A drop, a bend, a cracked front and any repair that opens the phone all affect the seal. We say so when it applies and renew the seal where the model has one, but we do not claim that restores the original IP68 rating.

If an iPhone 12 has been in water, the first hour matters most. Switch it off and leave it off. Do not plug it in to test it: power through a wet port is how a repairable phone becomes a board repair. Skip the rice, which does not draw liquid out, and bring it in soon, because corrosion works over days. Details are on our iPhone water damage repair page.

Apple, us, or the cheapest shop

Apple is the right answer if your iPhone 12 is still under warranty or a plan that is still running, and for anyone who wants Apple’s own parts fitted through Apple’s own system. We are an independent workshop and not affiliated with Apple. Most iPhone 12s are long past the standard warranty, but check, because work done elsewhere can affect cover.

We make sense once cover has lapsed, and when you want a choice between genuine-grade and quality aftermarket parts, a written quote before work, component-level repair rather than part-swapping where possible, and a written warranty on parts and labour. Nothing is sent offshore, and nothing is handed to a third party without telling you.

The cheapest shop is sometimes fine. What separates good from bad is not the price. Is it quoting glass-only or a full display? Is the quote in writing? Is there a warranty? Our guide to how third-party and Apple repair compare sets out the trade-offs.

Is a 2020 iPhone worth repairing in 2026?

Usually, yes, and it depends on the repair. As of 2026 the iPhone 12 runs iOS 26, so software is not what holds it back. The worn parts are.

  • Battery. Almost always worth it: the cheapest common job, it fixes shutdowns and slowdown together, and it is the best value on this phone.
  • Screen. Usually worth it if the phone is otherwise sound and you are keeping it. Ask which repair the quote covers.
  • Charging. Test the case, cable and lint before paying for anything.
  • Back glass or housing. Ask first, and get the total in writing. A crack that is not spreading, under a case, can be a legitimate answer.
  • Two or three faults at once. Get the combined figure in writing before deciding.

A repaired phone keeps its trade-in value; a cracked one with a dying battery keeps very little.

Before you bring it in

  1. Back it up. Most screen and battery jobs never touch your data, but a copy in iCloud or on a computer is the only real protection.
  2. Note the model and the battery number. Settings, General, About for the Model Name; Settings, Battery, Battery Health & Charging for Maximum Capacity.
  3. Try the free checks. Case off, another cable, MagSafe against cable, a force restart.
  4. Cover a crack. Clear tape or a screen protector holds the fragments together until you can come in.
  5. Know your passcode and switch off Find My iPhone. We cannot properly test a locked phone.

We are at 6 Harper Road, Leong Huat Building #05-02, three minutes from Tai Seng MRT on the Circle Line. WhatsApp us the model and the symptom first if you want parts and timing confirmed.

Manage to fix my iPad mini screen as well as the home button with minimal cost incurred compared to Apple Store. It was a very disappointing with Apple Store that they only cares about selling new products to consumers. At least in here, the staffs help you to save either your iPad, iPhone or even Mac book. Thumb up for them!!

iPhone 12 repair questions, answered

How much does an iPhone 12 glass replacement cost in Singapore?

It depends which repair you are quoted. A glass-only repair keeps your own OLED panel and is only possible when the panel underneath is undamaged; a full display replacement swaps the whole assembly. Our standing screen band for the iPhone 12 family runs from around S$110 to S$380, and the exact figure, with the repair type stated, comes in writing after a free diagnosis.

How much does an iPhone 12 battery replacement cost in Singapore?

Our standing band is from around S$80 to S$150, covering the 12 mini, 12, 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max. Where a phone lands depends on the model and the part grade where a real choice exists. You get a written quote after a free diagnosis, and many battery jobs are done while you wait, subject to parts.

How much does an iPhone 12 repair cost in Singapore?

Screens run from around S$110 to S$380 and batteries from around S$80 to S$150. Back glass, housing and frame work, camera, Face ID, charging port, water damage and board-level repair are quoted by model after a free diagnosis. The quote is written before any work, and if we cannot fix the phone you do not pay a repair fee.

Can you replace just the cracked glass on an iPhone 12 and keep the screen?

Sometimes. A glass-only repair separates the cracked glass from the OLED and bonds new glass on. It is only possible when the panel underneath is undamaged, with no lines, dark patches or dead touch. Separating glass always carries some risk to a panel that is already stressed, so a shop should tell you the fall-back cost before it starts. If the panel is damaged, the repair is a full display assembly.

Why does my iPhone 12 mini battery drain so fast?

The mini has the smallest battery in the range, so a day of use takes a bigger share of it and it is charged more often. More charges means more cycles, and an iPhone 12 is around six years old now. Check Maximum Capacity under Settings, Battery, Battery Health and Charging: below 80 per cent Apple treats the battery as consumable, and iOS may slow the phone to prevent shutdowns.

What does iPhone 12 housing replacement mean?

The housing is the frame of the phone plus the glass back joined to it. Replacing it means moving every working part into a new frame, usually considered when the frame is bent. A cracked back on a straight frame is a back glass repair instead, because the glass is laser-welded to the frame. Both are quoted by model after a free diagnosis.

Will Face ID still work after an iPhone 12 screen replacement?

It should, when the repair is done properly. The Face ID sensors sit in the notch and are not part of the OLED, and the original sensor assembly is moved across from your old display to the new one rather than replaced. Faults come from a torn flex or a connector not seated during that move. Ask the shop to show Face ID, the front camera and the earpiece working before you pay.

Is an iPhone 12 still water resistant after a repair?

Apple's IP68 rating is a factory seal, and Apple itself says water resistance is not permanent and can reduce with wear. Any repair that opens the phone affects the seal, and so do drops and cracked glass. We say so when it applies and renew the seal where the model has one, but we do not promise to restore the original IP68 rating.

My MagSafe charger is not working on my iPhone 12. Is the charging port faulty?

Probably not. MagSafe charges wirelessly through the back of the phone, not through the Lightning port, so a phone that charges by cable but not on MagSafe has a working port. Check the case first, then the charger's own cable and power adapter, and that the phone sits flat and centred. If it charges on MagSafe but not by cable, look for lint in the port.
