iPhone 6, 7 and 8 repair in Singapore, and where it stops making sense

The iPhone 6, 6s, 7 and 8 are the home-button iPhones, and many are still in daily use as a spare, a child’s first phone or a parent’s phone. A battery and a screen make sense on almost all of them. The home button needs care, because Touch ID is paired to the logic board. And it is worth asking first what the phone is for. This page covers the Plus and SE models too, and where we would tell you to stop.

Telling an iPhone 6, 6s, 7 and 8 apart

Parts for these phones are model-specific, and a Plus is a different, larger part from the standard size, so the exact phone matters before any quote. You can do most of it yourself in a minute.

Start with the bottom edge and the back. A headphone jack beside the Lightning port means an iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s or 6s Plus. No jack and an aluminium back is a 7 or 7 Plus. No jack and a glass back is an 8 or 8 Plus. The first-generation iPhone SE has a jack too; the SE models have their own section below.

Then tell a 6 from a 6s. They look almost identical, so use the software. The 6 and 6 Plus cannot run anything newer than iOS 12, while the 6s and 6s Plus can reach iOS 15, so a phone running iOS 13 or later is not a 6. Settings, then General, then About, shows the model, and we identify it before we quote.

What a home-button iPhone repair costs here

These are the bands we publish for the iPhone SE and iPhone 8 on the iPhone repair cost guide, and we price the 6, 6s and 7 in the same tier. They are bands, not quotes, and every price is in writing before we start.

  • Screen (6, 6s, 7, 8, their Plus models and the SE models): from around S$70 to S$150.
  • Battery (the same phones): from around S$50 to S$90.
  • Everything else (back glass, Touch ID, charging port, headphone jack, camera, water damage, board-level repair): quoted by model after a free diagnosis, with no number before we have seen the phone.

Many screen and battery jobs are done while you wait, subject to the right part being on the bench for your model. We never promise a time before we have seen the phone.

Battery: the repair that makes the most sense

A home-button iPhone that shuts down at 30 per cent, or is flat by lunchtime, usually needs a battery and not a replacement phone. Whether you call it changing an iPhone 6 battery or an iPhone 6s, 7 Plus or 8 battery replacement, it is the same job in the same band: from around S$50 to S$90. It is the cheapest repair here, and it changes how the phone feels more than any other.

Check first. Open Settings, then Battery, then Battery Health (newer versions of iOS call it Battery Health & Charging) and read Maximum Capacity. Apple treats a battery as consumable below 80 per cent. An ageing battery can also make iOS hold the processor back to stop sudden shutdowns, which is why an old iPhone feels slow as well as short of charge. A fresh battery usually brings both back.

Many of these phones have had a battery changed already, and a poor-quality replacement can fade fast, so tell us if yours was done elsewhere. Opening a 7 or 8 affects its factory water seal, which we tell you about and renew.

One symptom that should not wait. If the screen is lifting at one edge, the back is bulging or the phone rocks on a flat table, the battery may be swollen. Stop using and charging it, keep it somewhere cool and open, and bring it in. It happens at any age.

Our iPhone battery replacement in Singapore page covers the process and the warranty.

Screen replacement on an iPhone 6, 7 or 8

Every phone on this page has an LCD, the cheaper kind of panel, so the screen band, from around S$70 to S$150, is lower than for the OLED iPhones that followed. An iPhone 7 screen replacement and an iPhone 8 screen repair sit in it, and so do the 6 and 6s. The Plus models usually sit higher, because a larger panel costs more. The written quote names the part going in.

What it costs to fix an iPhone 7 or 6 Plus screen depends on what is broken:

  • Cracked glass, picture and touch fine. Cosmetic today, but the glass can cut a finger, moisture can get in, and touch often fails next.
  • Cracks with dead patches or ghost touches. The touch layer is damaged, and a new screen restores it.
  • Lines, ink-like patches or a white or black screen while the phone still rings. The display has failed.
  • No image, no touch, no ring. It can be the board and not the screen, so we diagnose before we quote.

On these phones the part that matters most is the home button, which must be moved to the new screen. Our iPhone screen replacement page covers every model.

Touch ID and the home button: the part that needs care

The home button and its Touch ID sensor sit on the front of the phone, with a cable that runs to the logic board. When a screen is replaced, the home button with its Touch ID sensor must come off the old screen and go onto the new one. This is where careless repairs go wrong.

Touch ID on these phones is paired to the logic board of your individual phone. Fit a different home-button cable, new or taken from another phone, and Touch ID stops working. So the original assembly has to be moved across, and the cable is thin and easy to damage. Ask whether the original home-button assembly is being kept, because that is what decides whether Touch ID still works.

  • iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s and 6s Plus. The button clicks, so it is also a moving part that can wear or stick. A sticking button and a sensor that will not read are different faults.
  • iPhone 7, 7 Plus, 8 and 8 Plus. The home button is solid-state, with no moving click. The same pairing rule applies.

If Touch ID has already stopped

A loose connector is one thing, a torn cable or a damaged sensor another, and because the sensor is paired, a different cable is not a fix. Touch ID repairs are quoted by model after a free diagnosis, with no number before we have looked, and we will say plainly if it cannot be restored. People search for an iPhone 6 Touch ID replacement cost; the honest answer is a diagnosis first and a price second.

A phone without Touch ID still works. It unlocks with a passcode, and on a spare or a child’s phone that is often enough.

Two faults people read about: the 6 Plus touch problem and the 7 audio fault

Two faults on these phones have names on forums, and neither is cured by the repair you would first guess.

iPhone 6 Plus: the flickering grey bar

The iPhone 6 Plus has a commonly reported fault known as “touch disease”. It starts as a flickering grey bar across the top of the screen, then touch turns patchy and stops. It is commonly reported as a board fault rather than a screen fault, so a new screen may not cure it, which is why we diagnose before we quote.

iPhone 7 and 7 Plus: the greyed-out speaker button

On a 7 or 7 Plus the commonly reported audio fault shows on calls, where the speaker button turns grey. It is described as a fault in an audio chip on the board, not the speaker. Rule out the free causes first on our iPhone sound not working page.

Both are board-level jobs, repaired at component level where they can be repaired at all, and quoted by model after a free diagnosis. See iPhone motherboard repair. If we cannot fix it, you do not pay a repair fee.

Back glass: an iPhone 8 question, not a 6, 6s or 7 one

The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus were the first iPhones with a glass back, which is what allowed wireless charging. The 6, 6s and 7 have aluminium backs, so there is nothing to shatter. That is why iPhone 8 back glass replacement and iPhone 8 Plus back glass replacement are the questions people ask.

On an 8, the rear glass is laser-welded to the frame, so removing it cleanly needs a laser and heat. It is quoted by model after a free diagnosis, not from a list. Our iPhone back glass replacement page explains the job.

Is it worth it on a phone this age? A cracked back is mostly cosmetic, until shards catch your thumb or the crack lets moisture in; the 8’s water resistance is not something to count on once the glass is cracked. On a spare we will often say leave it in a case. On a phone you carry daily and plan to keep, the repair is reasonable.

Charging port and headphone jack

Every phone here charges through Lightning, and the commonest reason one stops is lint compacted in the port, not a broken port. Try a known-good cable, then look in with a torch, and please do not dig with a pin, because a scraped port is a harder repair than a dirty one. We clean ports as part of the free diagnosis, and a clean costs nothing when that is all it needs.

If a clean port and a good cable still fail, the next suspects are the port assembly and the charging circuit on the board; see iPhone charging port repair.

The 6 and 6s, and the first-generation SE, also have a 3.5 mm headphone jack that collects lint the same way. The 7 and 8 have no jack, so their headphone trouble is a Lightning connection or Bluetooth.

Water damage on a phone this age

The 6 and 6s have no water-resistance rating. The 7 and 8, and the 2nd and 3rd generation SE, are rated IP67 by Apple. That rating belongs to a new phone: one that has been dropped, opened or run with a cracked screen should not be trusted to keep it.

Any repair that opens a phone affects the factory seal. We tell you before we start, and on models that have a seal we renew it.

If one has been in water, switch it off, do not charge it and bring it in quickly, because corrosion keeps working after a phone looks dry. Our iPhone water damage repair page sets out the first ten minutes. It is quoted after the phone is opened and inspected.

iOS limits: what an old iPhone can still do

A repair can replace a battery or a screen. It cannot raise the newest iOS a phone can run. As of 2026, from Apple’s published compatibility lists:

  • iPhone 6 and 6 Plus: iOS 12.
  • iPhone 6s, 6s Plus, 7, 7 Plus and the first-generation SE: iOS 15.
  • iPhone 8 and 8 Plus: iOS 16.

Some apps need a newer iOS than an old phone can run, and the 6 and 6 Plus reach that point first. Before you spend money, check that the apps you rely on still install and update. We name no apps, because the answer changes by app.

So repair is about what the phone is for: a spare, a child’s first phone, a parent’s phone for calls and photos, or a music player on a 6 or 6s with its headphone jack. If the job is running the newest apps, no repair fixes that.

iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation): the same home button, a newer phone

The iPhone SE (2nd generation, 2020) and iPhone SE (3rd generation, 2022) keep the home button and Touch ID, and from the front look much like an iPhone 8. They have LCD screens, are rated IP67, and as of 2026 run iOS 26. The first-generation SE (2016) has a headphone jack and stops at iOS 15, so read it alongside the 6s and 7.

That makes a battery or a screen a straightforward decision: fix it. They sit in the 8’s tier, screen from around S$70 to S$150 and battery from around S$50 to S$90, and the Touch ID rule is the same, with the original home-button assembly moved across. Anything else is quoted by model after a free diagnosis.

Apple, us, or the cheapest shop

Three honest positions, and one of them is not us.

Apple is the better choice if you want Apple-sourced parts and repair under Apple’s own terms. We do not print Apple’s prices for these models, because we could not verify them, so ask Apple what it will do on yours and what it costs, in writing. Our guide to third-party vs Apple repair in Singapore sets out the trade-offs.

We are independent, not affiliated with or authorised by Apple. We repair at component level where we can, give a free diagnosis on walk-ins, a written quote before any work and a written warranty on parts and labour, and offer genuine-grade and quality aftermarket parts where a real choice exists. If we cannot fix it, you do not pay a repair fee. Nothing is sent offshore or handed to a third party without telling you.

The cheapest shop is sometimes fine. On this generation, ask three things. Is the quote in writing? Will my own home button be moved across so Touch ID keeps working? And what happens if you cannot fix it?

Is it worth repairing, and what to do before you bring it in

When it makes sense, and when we would say stop

A battery makes sense on almost any of these phones if it still runs the apps you need. So does a screen on a phone you carry daily or are handing to a child or parent, and a battery or screen on a 2nd or 3rd generation SE. We would say stop when the repair would cost close to a decent second-hand phone, when the apps you need will no longer install, or when the faulty part is one the phone’s job does not need, such as Touch ID on a spare. If a 6 Plus touch fault cannot be repaired, we tell you after the diagnosis, and you pay no repair fee.

Moving to a newer phone first

Set the new phone up from an iCloud or computer backup, and keep the old one until you have checked everything came across. If the old phone is the only copy and will not switch on, our guide on how to recover data from an iPhone covers the options. What is possible, we tell you after a free diagnosis, never before.

Before you bring it in

  1. Back up to iCloud or a computer. A screen or battery job does not wipe the phone, but it is the right habit.
  2. Turn off Find My iPhone and have your passcode ready, because we cannot test a locked phone. On a hand-me-down, make sure it is not still tied to a previous owner’s Apple Account.
  3. Take the case off and note when the fault happens. “Only while charging” narrows a diagnosis a great deal.

We are at 6 Harper Road, Leong Huat Building #05-02, three minutes from Tai Seng MRT on the Circle Line. Walk-ins get a free diagnosis and a written quote before we touch a screw, and nothing starts until you approve it. Islandwide courier is possible. WhatsApp us the model and the symptom first.

Manage to fix my iPad mini screen as well as the home button with minimal cost incurred compared to Apple Store. It was a very disappointing with Apple Store that they only cares about selling new products to consumers. At least in here, the staffs help you to save either your iPad, iPhone or even Mac book. Thumb up for them!!

Questions we get every week

iPhone 6, 7 and 8 repair questions, answered

How much does an iPhone 6 battery replacement cost in Singapore?

Our band for a battery on the iPhone 6, 6s, 7, 8 and SE models is from around S$50 to S$90, with the Plus models quoted in the same tier. It is a band and not a quote: you get a written price after a free diagnosis, and nothing starts until you approve it.

Is it worth changing the battery on an iPhone 6s, or should I buy a new phone?

Usually the battery, if the phone still does what you need. It is the cheapest repair, from around S$50 to S$90, and it fixes short battery life and sudden shutdowns. The limit is software: as of 2026 an iPhone 6s runs iOS 15 at most, so check that the apps you rely on still install and update before you spend anything.

How much does an iPhone 7 screen replacement cost in Singapore?

Our band for a screen on the iPhone 7, and on the 6, 6s, 8 and SE models, is from around S$70 to S$150. All of them use an LCD, and the Plus models usually sit toward the top of the band because the panel is larger. Your written quote follows a free diagnosis, and your home button is moved across so Touch ID keeps working.

Will Touch ID still work after an iPhone 6, 7 or 8 screen replacement?

It should, because we move your original home-button assembly across to the new screen. Touch ID on these phones is paired to the logic board, so fitting a different home-button cable stops it working. If your original cable or sensor was damaged in a drop, we tell you before we start. The phone still unlocks with a passcode either way.

How much does an iPhone 6 Touch ID replacement cost?

There is no list price, and anyone quoting one without seeing the phone is guessing. Touch ID is paired to the logic board, so a new home button does not bring it back, and the right fix depends on what failed. It is quoted by model after a free diagnosis, in writing. If we cannot restore it, you do not pay a repair fee.

Can you replace the back glass on an iPhone 8 or 8 Plus?

Yes. The glass is laser-welded to the frame, so removing it cleanly needs a laser and heat, and it is quoted by model after a free diagnosis, with no number before we have seen the phone. The 6, 6s and 7 have aluminium backs, so there is no glass to replace.

What is iPhone 6 Plus touch disease, and can it be fixed?

It is the name commonly given to a fault on the iPhone 6 Plus: a flickering grey bar appears at the top of the screen, then touch becomes unresponsive. It is commonly reported as a board-level fault, so a new screen may not cure it. We diagnose first. If we cannot fix it, you do not pay a repair fee.

What is the latest iOS an iPhone 6, 7 or 8 can run?

As of 2026, from Apple's published compatibility lists, the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus stop at iOS 12. The 6s, 6s Plus, 7, 7 Plus and first-generation SE stop at iOS 15. The 8 and 8 Plus stop at iOS 16. The 2nd and 3rd generation SE run iOS 26. A repair cannot change these limits.
