These guides are being rewritten

The old iPhone archive on this site was written years ago and much of it no longer reflects how these devices are built or how they fail. Rather than leave it standing, we are rewriting it. Nothing has been deleted — the individual articles remain at their original addresses while that work happens.

The workshop has not stopped doing the repairs. iPhone screens, batteries, charging ports and board-level faults are all bench work we do every week, at component level, under a microscope. If you have one in front of you right now, the fastest route is to send us a photo and tell us what it is doing.

In the meantime, our laptop and MacBook guides cover the diagnostic reasoning that applies to any device with a lithium battery and a printed circuit board: what to do after a spill, how to recognise a battery that has become dangerous, and how repair pricing actually works.

Questions we get every week

Frequently asked questions

Can an iPhone that will not power on be repaired?
Usually. A dead iPhone is normally a single failed component on the logic board — a shorted capacitor, a charging IC, a blown fuse. That is a microsoldering repair, and it keeps the original board and your photos.
Will replacing my iPhone screen break Face ID?
No. Face ID lives in the front sensor array, not the display, and a competent repair transfers that array to the new screen. If Face ID dies during a screen replacement, the array was damaged in the transfer.
Why does my iPhone say the battery cannot be verified?
Because the cell is not a genuine paired Apple battery. Runtime is fully restored; what you lose is the Battery Health percentage in Settings. We tell you that before we fit it.
My iPhone got wet but still works. Should I bring it in?
Yes, now, and do not charge it. Corrosion started the moment liquid arrived and continues until the board is cleaned properly. An ultrasonic clean today costs a fraction of a board repair next month.

Not sure which fault you have?

Send a photo and a description. We will tell you what it usually is, what it usually costs, and whether it is worth repairing at all.
