How long does MacBook screen replacement take?
The answer depends on which model, which fault, and whether the shop is prepared to let adhesive cure. One of those three is the reason a same-day promise is sometimes a warning.

Before you book anything: the torch test
Take the MacBook into a dark room, power it on, and shine a torch at the screen at a shallow angle. If you can see a faint desktop, your panel is alive. The liquid crystal is switching correctly; the LEDs behind it are not lit.
That is a backlight fault, and it lives in one of three places: the backlight boost circuit on the logic board (a blown fuse, a failed inductor, a dead driver IC), the backlight flex cable (the famous "flexgate" abrasion on 2016–2017 Pros), or the panel's own LED string. Two of those three are board-level repairs costing a fraction of a display assembly.

Why bonded assemblies take longer
A Retina lid is not a panel in a frame. Glass, panel and, in most designs, the lid itself are laminated together, and on many models the assembly also carries the camera, the antennas and the display flex. Replacing it means the whole assembly.
The time is not in the swap. It is in the adhesive. Fresh bonding adhesive needs a controlled cure under even pressure, and a lid closed and handed over before that cure completes will lift at a corner within weeks and let dust under the bezel. This is the corner that gets cut when a shop promises you the machine in two hours, and the customer never connects the failure back to the promise.
The same logic governs flexgate repairs: the display must be opened, the cable repaired or replaced under a microscope, and the assembly re-bonded and cured.

What actually changes the timeline
- Which fault it really is. Backlight circuit, flex cable, or panel — three repairs, three timelines, three prices.
- Model and year. Assemblies for current models are commonly in stock; older Retina generations may be ordered.
- Whether the hinge or the lid is damaged too. A drop that cracked a screen often bent a hinge, and fitting an assembly onto a bent hinge cracks the next one.
- Whether liquid was involved. Any spill means board inspection and cleaning first, and that adds days — correctly.
- Whether the machine still boots. If it does not, the display is not the only problem.

- Backlight circuit repair, board-level — S$180 – 320.
- Backlight flex / flexgate repair — S$220 – 420.
- Retina display assembly — quoted by model and year; it is the most expensive single part on most MacBooks.
- Hinge / lid correction — quoted after inspection.
The spread between the first item and the third is precisely why the torch test is worth ten seconds.

Can a MacBook screen be replaced in one day?
Sometimes — on older non-Retina models with a bare panel, or where the fault is a backlight circuit rather than a screen. A bonded Retina display assembly needs its adhesive to cure under even pressure, which realistically means one to two days.
Can just the glass on a MacBook be replaced?
Not on Retina models. The glass, the panel and usually the lid are laminated into one assembly, so the assembly is the service part. This is why MacBook screen repair costs what it does.
My MacBook screen is black but I can hear it running. Is the screen broken?
Test it before you assume. Shine a torch at the dark screen at an angle in a dark room. A faint visible image means the panel works and the backlight has failed — a board-level or flex-cable repair, at a fraction of the cost of a display.
Is it cheaper to repair the flexgate cable than replace the display?
Substantially. A backlight flex repair runs S$220–420 against a full Retina display assembly, which is the most expensive part on the machine. The catch is that it must be done under a microscope by someone who does it regularly.
