How much does laptop repair cost in Singapore?
Prices in this trade are opaque for a reason: vagueness is profitable. Here is what each repair actually costs, what drives the number, and how to work out whether to repair or replace.

What actually drives the number
Whether the part is discrete or bonded. A keyboard is S$150 on a ThinkPad and S$400 on a Spectre, because on one it is a keyboard and on the other it is the entire top of the laptop. Nobody is inflating anything; the machine was designed that way.
The panel part number, not the screen size. A 15.6" 1080p 60Hz IPS panel and a 15.6" 1080p 165Hz 100%-sRGB panel look identical in a listing and differ by hundreds of dollars.
Whether the fault was found or guessed. A shorted ceramic capacitor costs cents. Finding it costs bench time. A board swap avoids the bench time and charges you for a board.
Labour, honestly. A Razer Blade battery takes three times as long as an Inspiron battery. A Surface Pro needs its display removed to reach anything at all.
Repair or replace? A usable rule
The rough test most of the trade uses: if the repair costs more than 40% of what an equivalent replacement costs, and the machine is more than five years old, replacement usually wins.
But apply it honestly, and apply it to the real repair. Most quotes that fail this test fail because someone quoted a mainboard for a charging IC. A S$200 board repair on a four-year-old S$1,500 laptop is not a close decision. A S$700 display assembly on a nine-year-old machine is.
Three factors override the arithmetic. Data — if the files matter and the storage is soldered, repair the board. Safety — a swollen battery is fixed or the machine is retired; there is no third option. Whether the machine still does the job — a five-year-old ThinkPad with a new battery, an NVMe SSD and a thermal service is a genuinely good computer for under S$400.

Where money quietly disappears
- Panels downgraded during a screen repair. Ask for the part number in writing.
- Batteries with unstated capacity. A pack sold for a 57Wh original that contains 41Wh is a 28% shorter working day. Ask for the watt-hours.
- Repastes that skip the thermal pads. One third of the job, sold as all of it.
- Keyboards fitted over corroded boards after a spill. Works for three weeks.
- "Reflowing" a GPU. Buys weeks and makes the proper reball harder.
- Board replacement on a Mac or Surface with data on it. The most expensive mistake on this list, and it is not measured in dollars.
Five questions that get you an honest quote anywhere
- "Can you show me the fault?" If they cannot point at it, they have not found it.
- "What is the part number of the panel/battery you are fitting, and its rated spec?"
- "Is the diagnostic fee credited against the repair, and what happens if you cannot fix it?"
- "Is the warranty written on the job sheet, and what does it exclude?"
- "Will this repair put my data at risk?" On any Mac or Surface, this is the important one.

Is laptop repair cheaper than buying a new laptop?
Usually, and by a wide margin, once the fault is correctly identified. The comparison only looks close when a mainboard has been quoted for what is really a component-level fault. If the repair exceeds about 40% of a replacement's cost and the machine is over five, replacement starts to win.
Do you charge for diagnostics?
First-line diagnostics on arrival are free. Bench diagnostics that require opening the machine or imaging a drive carry a fee, quoted before we start and credited against the repair if you proceed.
What is the most common laptop repair in Singapore?
By volume: thermal service, battery replacement and screen replacement. By value to the customer: thermal service, because it costs under S$250 and typically returns a machine that felt like it needed replacing.
Why are quotes for the same repair so different?
Because "screen replacement" and "battery" describe outcomes, not parts. Panel part numbers, cell capacities and labour differ enormously. Ask for the part number and the rated spec in writing, and the differences usually explain themselves.
