Acer laptop repair in Singapore, done at component level
Aspire, Swift, Spin, Nitro, Predator, TravelMate and ConceptD — and the boards inside them. We trace Acer faults with a bench supply and a thermal camera, quote in writing, and rebuild the part that failed instead of billing you for the whole assembly around it.
A slice of this week's Acer bench log
Most Acer repairs land from around S$90 to S$650, typically same day on common faults, 3–7 days for board-level work. Diagnosis is free on walk-ins, you get a written quote before any work starts, and if we cannot fix it you do not pay a repair fee. See how we arrive at that.

Why Acer laptops come to our Singapore workshop
Acer sells more laptops in Singapore than almost anyone, for a simple reason: line for line, they give you the most machine for the money. That value is exactly why they end up on our bench in such numbers. Owners who chose an Aspire or a Nitro because it was sensibly priced are not keen to throw it away over a single cracked hinge or a fan that no longer keeps up — they want it repaired, and an Acer almost always rewards that instinct. We see the full spread, from a four-year-old Aspire that followed a student through polytechnic to a barely-broken-in Predator that started shutting down after its first humid Singapore gaming session.
The catch is that most of Singapore's repair trade does not really repair Acers — it swaps parts of them. The reflex is to declare a board "faulty", order a replacement, and pass the cost to you. It is precisely why an owner gets quoted several hundred dollars for a "dead motherboard" when the real fault is a charging chip smaller than a grain of rice or one shorted capacitor. We work the opposite way. The Acer goes onto a bench power supply, we read what it draws in the first second of power, and that one measurement tells us whether we are chasing a dead short, an open circuit, or a board that is alive but not sequencing its power rails.
That method matters on Acer more than most, because the range is so broad and built to such different price points. An entry Aspire moulded to a keen price and a Predator Helios engineered for sustained gaming load can show the identical symptom for entirely different reasons, and the correct repair depends on reading the board rather than the sticker. We service the whole line: Aspire consumer laptops, the thin-and-light Swift, the Spin convertibles, the Nitro mainstream gaming range, the premium Predator Helios and Triton machines, TravelMate business laptops, ConceptD creator systems and Acer Chromebooks.
The common Acer problems we see, and what they really mean
Below is the intake reference our technicians reach for when an Acer arrives. The codes are ours, not an Acer standard — quoting one to us over WhatsApp simply lets us free the right bench and pull the right parts before you arrive. The turnaround assumes the part is in stock and the fault behaves as the symptom suggests; board faults and structural hinge rebuilds are the exception, because we never quote a fixed schedule on damage we have not yet traced.

Tell us the Acer model and the symptom
Send a photo of the machine, the model name and serial from the base if you have it, and a two-line description of what it does. A technician replies with a probable diagnosis and an honest price band before you travel.

Our Acer repair process, step by step
Every Acer follows the same path, whether it is a same-day battery swap or a three-day GPU reball. The point of a fixed process is that nothing gets skipped and nothing gets guessed.
- Symptom capture. We ask what the machine does, when it started, and what changed just before — a drop, a knock on the lid, a Windows update, a new charger. On Acer the history of how the lid was opened tells us a great deal, because so many faults start at the hinge.
- Non-destructive diagnosis. Power-path check on a bench supply, storage health read, memory test, thermals and fan behaviour. Nothing is written to a suspect drive. On a no-power Acer this is where the current-draw reading decides everything that follows.
- Image first, if the drive is suspect. A failing SSD gets imaged on write-blocked hardware before any repair attempt. Recovery software run against a dying disk is the most common way data is lost for good, and we will not do it.
- Written quote. The fault, the part, the price, and an honest read on whether the repair is worth doing on an Acer of that model, age and value. You approve the figure before we proceed, and it does not change afterwards.
- Repair or upgrade. Component-level board work under the microscope where the fault is on the board; a clean part swap or a proper hinge rebuild where it is a battery, screen, keyboard, jack or cracked top cover. SSD and RAM upgrades are cloned in place so your Windows install survives untouched.
- Load test before collection. Sustained load, thermals logged, storage verified, ports and charging checked, hinge cycled by hand. The written warranty goes on your job sheet, and we show you the fault we found.
Acer motherboard repair: what actually happens
A modern Acer mainboard is a multi-layer board carrying dozens of switching regulators, a charging IC, an embedded controller, the CPU package, memory and — on Nitro, Predator and ConceptD machines — a discrete GPU with its own power delivery. Almost every "dead Acer motherboard" is one of those subsystems misbehaving, and most are repairable by someone with the boardview and the equipment to swap components without cooking the board around them. The repairs we do most on Acer boards are shorted decoupling capacitors on a power rail, a failed charging IC that leaves the board drawing nothing from the adapter, a worn or cracked DC-in jack, corroded traces after a minor spill, and GPU solder fatigue on the Nitro and Predator lines. We are honest about the limits up front: a board with catastrophic physical damage — a snapped PCB, a delaminated CPU package — is often beyond economical repair, and we say so on day one rather than after you have paid.
Acer screen, hinge and battery work
Hinge and top-cover repair is Acer's signature job. Because the hinge mounts are moulded into cost-engineered plastic on many Aspire, Swift and Spin chassis, the posts crack under years of one-handed opening and the damage spreads into the palm rest or top cover. We rebuild and reinforce the mounting points, re-tension or replace the hinge, and bond the cracked panel back to strength rather than selling you a whole chassis. Screen faults are the other high-volume Acer repair: we fit LCD, IPS and high-refresh gaming panels to the correct resolution, refresh rate and colour gamut, because a cheaper panel with the wrong specification shows the moment you open a photo or a fast game. Swollen batteries we treat as the safety issue they are: a puffed lithium-polymer cell lifting your trackpad is replaced the same day with a correct-capacity pack. Detail on both lives on our screen replacement and battery replacement pages.
Acer overheating and thermal service
If your Acer feels slower than it did a year ago, the most likely cause is heat, not Windows and not the SSD — and on the Nitro and Predator lines heat is the fault we see most. Thermal compound between the CPU and GPU dies and their heatsinks dries and cracks; Singapore's dust builds a felt mat across the radiator fins; fan bearings wear and spin slower than the sensor believes. The chips protect themselves by dropping clock speed, and the machine gets slow — or shuts down outright under a game — without ever reporting a clear fault. A full thermal service means a strip-down, fin-stack cleaning, fan replacement or bearing service, fresh compound, and new thermal pads on the VRM and VRAM cut to the correct thickness. On Nitro and Predator machines we routinely record fifteen-to-twenty-degree drops in sustained-load temperature and the return of lost clock speed. Dollar for dollar, it is the best-value repair on this list.
SSD and RAM upgrades on Acer
Two upgrades still transform an Acer's character, and they are especially worthwhile on a value machine. Moving from a small or slow drive to a roomier NVMe SSD collapses boot and load times. Going from 8GB to 16GB or 32GB of RAM ends the constant swapping that makes a browser with thirty tabs feel broken. Both are usually same-day, and we clone your existing installation across so nothing is reinstalled. Two things we will read off the model and serial for you: whether your Acer has a spare M.2 slot or the existing drive must be replaced, and whether the RAM is socketed — on some thin Swift and Aspire models one memory bank is soldered down and only the second is upgradeable.
Notes from the bench, by Acer model line
Aspire — the consumer workhorse and our highest-volume Acer. Cost-engineered chassis, so cracked hinge mounts, a lifting palm rest and worn charging jacks arrive early; batteries and SSDs are the common consumables. Excellent value to keep running.
Swift — the thin-and-light line. Lovely to carry, but the slim top cover means the hinge stress that plagues Aspire hits here too, and RAM is often part-soldered. No-power faults are usually the charging circuit rather than a dead board.
Spin — the 2-in-1 convertibles. The 360-degree hinge and the touch digitiser add two failure points; we service both, and rebuild the hinge mounts that take extra strain from tablet-mode folding.
Nitro — mainstream gaming, and a thermal-service regular. Powerful cooling packed into a tight chassis clogs fast in Singapore's climate; a clean, repaste and fan service brings back lost performance for a fraction of a replacement.
Predator (Helios / Triton) — premium gaming that runs hot and hard. Thermal shutdowns, fan wear and, on higher-mileage boards, GPU solder fatigue dominate — all three are repairable rather than terminal. See our laptop motherboard repair page for the board-level detail.
TravelMate / ConceptD / Chromebook — the TravelMate is among the more serviceable Acers; ConceptD creator systems reward a thermal service under sustained rendering; Chromebooks are usually charging-port, screen and battery jobs.

Our warranty on Acer repairs
Every completed Acer repair leaves our workshop with a written warranty on the job sheet, covering both the part we fitted and the workmanship that fitted it. The warranty is specific rather than vague: it names the repair, the part, and the period, so there is never an argument later about what was covered. A replaced battery, screen, keyboard, hinge assembly or charging board is warranted against defect and against the repair itself failing; a board-level repair is warranted on the joint and the component we worked on. Physical damage, liquid ingress and unrelated new faults after collection sit outside any repair warranty — as they do everywhere.

Mistakes that turn a small Acer repair into a large one
- Opening a cracking Aspire by one corner of the lid. Once a hinge mount starts to pull, one-handed opening tears it the rest of the way. Open from the centre and bring it in early.
- Ignoring a swollen battery. A puffed cell lifting the trackpad is a fire risk, not a cosmetic annoyance. Stop using the machine and bring it in — do not press it flat.
- Gaming on a Nitro or Predator that already shuts down. Every thermal cutout cooks the paste harder and ages the GPU solder faster. A repaste now is far cheaper than a reball later.
- Reinstalling Windows to "fix" a failing SSD. The install writes across the failing sectors and destroys the data you were about to lose. Image first, then diagnose.
- Letting an unqualified shop "reflow" a Predator GPU. Heating the board until the solder softens revives it for a few weeks and makes the proper reball harder.

Acer repair questions, answered properly
How much does Acer laptop repair cost in Singapore?
It tracks the fault, not the model name. An Acer battery or SSD upgrade usually lands in the low hundreds and is finished the same day. A charging-jack rebuild on an Aspire or Swift, or a hinge and top-cover repair, sits a step above that. Board-level work — a shorted rail, a dead charging IC, a Predator GPU reball — starts in the mid hundreds because you are paying for bench hours under the microscope, not a part off a shelf. We diagnose first, quote in writing, and only start once you approve, so nothing changes at collection.
Why has the palm rest or top cover on my Acer Aspire cracked?
This is the single most common structural complaint we see on Acer, and it is not your fault. To hit a keen price Acer moulds the hinge mounting posts into fairly thin plastic on many Aspire and Swift chassis. Over a couple of years of opening the lid, the hinge grows stiffer than the plastic anchoring it, so every open tugs on the mount until the post cracks and the stress travels into the palm rest or top cover. We rebuild and reinforce the mounting points, re-tension or replace the hinge, and bond the cracked panel rather than selling you a whole chassis when the failure is a few anchor points.
My Acer Nitro or Predator overheats and shuts down mid-game. Can you fix it?
Yes, and it is one of the most rewarding jobs on the bench. Nitro and Predator machines pull serious power through compact cooling, and Singapore's dust and humidity pack the radiator fins into a felt mat within a year or two. A full thermal service — stripping the cooler, clearing the fin stacks, servicing the fans, fresh compound and new pads cut to the correct thickness — routinely drops sustained temperatures by fifteen to twenty degrees and hands back the clock speed the machine was throttling away. Where a Predator GPU has genuinely fatigued its solder we reball it properly rather than reflowing it as a short-lived trick.
My Acer is completely dead with no lights and no fan. Is the motherboard gone?
Rarely as badly as it looks. A dead Acer usually comes down to one misbehaving subsystem, not a scrapped board. We put it on a bench power supply and read what it draws in the first second: a dead short points to a failed capacitor or a shorted rail, while zero draw points to a charging IC not turning the board on or a broken DC-in jack. On the Aspire and Swift lines a worn jack or a tired charging chip is far more common than a truly failed mainboard, and both are component-level repairs rather than a full replacement.
Will I lose my files during an Acer repair?
For most repairs, no. Battery, screen, keyboard, hinge, charging and thermal work never touch your storage at all. If you are upgrading to a larger SSD we clone your existing Windows installation across, so your programs, licences and settings arrive exactly as you left them. If the drive itself is the fault we image it first on write-blocked hardware and recover from that image rather than the failing disk. We talk through what happens to your data before any work begins, never after it is done.
Do you offer same-day Acer repair, and where are you located?
For batteries, RAM, SSDs, fans, thermal service, most keyboards and stocked Acer screen panels we usually finish the same day — send us the model and the fault before you set off and we will confirm the part is on the shelf. We are at 6 Harper Road, Leong Huat Building #05-02, a short walk from Tai Seng MRT on the Circle Line and easy to reach from the CBD, Bishan, Toa Payoh and the east. Board-level Acer repairs and hinge rebuilds take a few working days, because a rushed board or a rushed bond fails twice.
Is it worth repairing an older Acer, or should I just replace it?
Acer laptops are strong repair candidates precisely because they are good value — a small, targeted repair buys years of extra life on a machine that was never expensive to begin with. A battery, an SSD, a thermal service, a hinge rebuild or a screen on a sound Aspire, Swift, Nitro or Predator is nearly always worth doing. A brand-new mainboard on an entry-level Aspire whose replacement cost is modest sometimes is not. We give you the repair figure and an honest read on the machine's remaining life, and you decide with both numbers in front of you.
