Methods to Fix Sound Issue on iPad

Check the iPad Sound Settings

Several times the iPad is either turned off or the volume is low. It leads people to think there is a problem with notifications. To get started, press the volume up button on the side of the iPad a few times to turn up the volume. A volume slider appears showing the volume level. You can also go to Settings> Sounds and increase the volume using the slider under Call & Alerts.

Restart iPad

For troubleshooting the sound issue process, you should restart your Apple iPad. Sometimes a simple fix like restarting the iPad will return the notification sound. To restart the iPad, hold down the physical power button, then slide the Power Off slider to turn off the iPad. Once fully closed, hold down the power button again to turn it on.

Check your iPad Notification Settings

Apple offers several settings for customizing notifications on iPad. You may have accidentally disabled the app notification completely or changed the setting that prevents the notification sound from working. To fix this, follow these steps:

  • Go to Settings on your iPad and choose Notifications.
  • You will see the option “Show preview”. Click on it and select Always.
  • In the “Notifications” section, you will find a list of installed applications. Tap on the app for which notification sounds don’t work.

Make sure the toggle next to Allow notifications in the problematic app is turned on. Then turn on the switch next to Sounds.

Select the Custom Notification Sound Check Box

Are you using custom notifications? If yes, it’s advisable to temporarily switch to the system tone. To change the notification sound, go to Settings> Sound. Click on the desired type of sound causing the problem and select the alert from the system tones.

Disable “Do Not Disturb” Mode

Do Not Disturb (DND) mode is another major reason notifications sound not working on iPad. When this mode is on, you will not hear any notifications and ringing tones. Therefore, you need to disable it and check other settings related to it as shown below.

  • Open Settings on your iPad and select Do Not Disturb.
