Acer laptop repair in Singapore
Acer builds a lot of laptop for the money, and the money comes out of the chassis. Almost every Acer that reaches our bench has the same structural story.

The Acer hinge, explained once and for all
On most Aspire, Swift and Nitro chassis, the display hinge is bolted into brass inserts moulded into a thin plastic palm rest or lid. The hinge's friction pack is deliberately stiff, so that the lid stays where you put it. Over a few thousand cycles the stiffness wins: the inserts spin in the plastic, the plastic around them fatigues, and the hinge starts levering rather than pivoting.
The visible sequence is: the bezel lifts at one corner; the lid no longer sits flush when closed; a crack appears in the palm rest near the hinge; and finally the hinge tears free, taking the display cable with it and sometimes cracking the panel. Repaired on day one this is a S$80–190 boss rebuild. Repaired at the end it is a hinge, a cable, a panel and a chassis.
We rebuild the mounting points with fresh brass inserts and structural epoxy, and replace hinges whose friction pack has seized. It adds an hour and it is the difference between a repair and a postponement.
Predator, Nitro and Helios: heat and dust
Acer's gaming cooling is adequate rather than generous, and it fills with dust as fast as anyone's. The familiar sequence applies: clogged fins, dried compound, hardened VRAM pads, rising sustained temperatures, throttling, and eventually GPU solder fatigue producing artifacts or a black screen with the fans spinning.
Nitro fan bearings are, in our experience, the weak point — a fan that whines or rattles is a fan whose bearing has worn, and a slow fan reports its speed to the sensor perfectly happily while moving almost no air. We replace fans rather than lubricating them, because lubrication buys months. Full detail on thermal service.

Acer boards: better than the chassis
It is worth saying plainly, because Acer's reputation is set by its plastics: the boards are ordinary, repairable, and no more failure-prone than anyone else's. The faults are the usual ones — a worn DC-in jack, a charging IC, a shorted decoupling capacitor after a small spill. On a bench power supply the fault declares itself in seconds, and the repair is S$120–280 rather than the price of a mainboard.
Where Acer does cost you money is parts availability on older models, and the occasional Swift generation with soldered memory. Check before you plan an upgrade.
What Acer repairs cost in Singapore
- Hinge and boss rebuild, per side — S$80 – 190.
- Palm rest / chassis repair — quoted after inspection; often cheaper to rebuild than replace.
- Fan replacement — S$90 – 170.
- Thermal service — S$90 – 170, same day.
- Battery — S$130 – 280.
- Panel — S$180 – 280 (1080p IPS), S$300 – 430 (144Hz).
- Charging IC or DC-in jack — S$120 – 280, board-level.
Owning an Acer well
Open and close the lid with two hands, or one hand at the centre of the top edge — never a corner. The moment the lid stops sitting flush, book a hinge inspection; that single habit will save most Acer owners several hundred dollars. Repaste a Nitro or Predator every two years, replace a whining fan rather than tolerating it, and never carry the machine by the open screen.
Questions we get every week
Frequently asked questions
Is it worth repairing a cracked Acer palm rest?
Usually yes, and usually as a rebuild rather than a replacement. We reinforce the fractured area and rebuild the hinge mounting bosses with brass inserts and structural epoxy, which restores the mechanical path and costs far less than a chassis. A replacement chassis on a four-year-old Aspire is often unobtainable anyway.
Why does my Acer laptop get so hot?
Because the fin stack is full of dust and the thermal compound has dried — on a three-year-old machine in Singapore, that is almost a certainty. It is not a design flaw so much as a maintenance interval nobody told you about. A thermal service is same-day and typically returns 10–20°C.
My Acer will not turn on. Is the motherboard dead?
In our logs, roughly one in five no-power laptops genuinely needs a board. The rest are charging ICs, DC-in jacks, blown fuses, dead batteries preventing boot, or a shorted rail. We put the board on a bench supply and read the current draw, which tells us which of those it is before we quote. See laptop won't turn on.
Can Acer laptops be upgraded?
Many Aspire, Nitro and Predator models have a spare M.2 slot and socketed RAM; several Swift generations solder the memory. Send us the exact model and we will check both before you buy anything.
