An independent workshop that would rather show you the fault

We are a component-level laptop and MacBook repair centre in Singapore. Bench power supplies, thermal cameras, microscopes, schematics and boardviews — and a habit of photographing what we find and putting it in front of you before we quote.

Who we are

iDevice Repair Centre exists because of a single frustration: the standard repair in Singapore is not a repair. It is a parts swap. A laptop arrives with a fault; the shop identifies the assembly that seems responsible; it orders a new one; it charges for it. This is fast, it is profitable, and it means customers are routinely told that a S$1,000 mainboard is dead when a S$4 ceramic capacitor is shorting a rail.

We built a bench that makes the honest answer possible. Schematics and boardviews for the platforms we service. A bench power supply that tells us in one second whether a board is shorted, open, or simply not sequencing. A thermal camera that finds the component drawing the current. Preheaters, hot-air, microscopes, micro-soldering, ultrasonic cleaning, hardware write blockers and imaging hardware. None of it is exotic. Almost none of it exists in a mall kiosk.

The result, over more than a decade and across upwards of nine hundred Google reviews averaging 4.8 stars, is a workshop where roughly four out of five "dead motherboards" walk out repaired, where a fifth of "dead screens" turn out to be backlight circuits, and where a quarter of the machines sent for a new battery leave with their original pack because the fault was the charging IC. Every one of those is revenue we chose not to take.

Inside the workshop

Three benches, each with a job.

  • Intake and diagnostics. Bench power supply with current limiting, USB-C PD analyser, thermal camera, external display, known-good chargers, batteries and panels for substitution testing.
  • Board bench. IR preheater running 150–180°C, hot-air with controlled airflow, a stereo microscope at 20–40×, micro-soldering irons, low-temperature bismuth solder for delicate rework, BGA reballing stencils, ultrasonic bath and isopropanol rinse for liquid work.
  • Data bench. Air-gapped workstations, hardware write blockers, controlled imagers that read good sectors first and retry marginal ones later, encrypted handover media, and secure erasure after collection.

Every bench is ESD-controlled: grounded mats, wrist straps, ionised air where it matters, and boards that never touch an ungrounded surface. Static damage does not announce itself — it shortens the life of a component that then fails three months after a repair. Preventing it is invisible, unglamorous work, and it is the reason our returns rate is what it is.

Come and see the bench for yourself

Walk in during opening hours and ask us to show you what we find. We photograph faults under the microscope because a customer who can see the problem does not have to trust us blindly.

Our technicians and safety practices

Board-level repair is a craft with a long apprenticeship. Our technicians have spent years at the microscope, working from schematics rather than symptoms, and the honest measure of that experience is not a certificate on a wall — it is whether they can point at the component that failed and explain why.

Safety practice, in a trade that handles pressurised lithium cells and mains-powered heat, is not optional:

  • Lithium handling. Swollen packs are isolated on arrival, moved with insulated tools, and stored in fire-rated containers. They are never punctured, compressed or stored charged.
  • Licensed disposal. Old cells and scrap boards leave through Singapore's regulated e-waste stream under the Extended Producer Responsibility scheme, never through general refuse.
  • Chemical control. Ultrasonic cleaning and isopropanol rinsing happen under extraction, with the correct PPE, away from ignition sources.
  • ESD discipline. Grounded benches, wrist straps, anti-static packaging for every board that leaves a machine.
  • Data discipline. Storage secured before any irreversible repair. Air-gapped recovery workstations. Signed confidentiality undertakings.

How a repair works, start to finish

  1. Tell us the symptom

Walk in, call, or WhatsApp a photo and two lines about what the machine does. You will get a probable diagnosis and an honest price band before you travel.

  2. Free first-line diagnostics

Visual inspection, power-path check and symptom reproduction, at no cost. Anything deeper is quoted first and credited against the repair.

  3. We show you the fault

Photographed under the microscope or measured on the bench. If we cannot show you what failed, we have not finished diagnosing.

  4. Written quote — and your decision

A fixed figure, in writing, before a screw turns. If it is not worth repairing, we will tell you that too.

  5. Data secured, then repair

Where storage is at risk or soldered, we secure your data before any irreversible work. Always.

  6. Test, soak, and hand over with a warranty

Bench power-up before reassembly, full function test, 24-hour soak on liquid jobs, then a written warranty on your job sheet.

Warranty and fees, in plain English

We would rather write this once, clearly, than bury it.

Warranty, fees and policies
PolicyWhat it means
Written warrantyEvery completed repair carries a warranty on the part fitted and our workmanship, with its term printed on your job sheet.
What is coveredFailure of the component we supplied, and any fault traceable to our work — a cable seated badly, a screw missing, a pad omitted.
What is not coveredNew physical damage, new liquid ingress, unrelated components, software faults, and the continued progression of corrosion in a machine that arrived already corroded.
Liquid damage caveatCorrosion is progressive. We state this in writing before starting, and we do not warrant against damage that was already underway when you brought the machine in.
DiagnosticsFree on arrival for first-line checks. Bench diagnostics that require opening the machine are quoted in advance and credited against the repair.
No fix, no feeNo repair fee for a repair we did not complete. An agreed diagnostic or assessment fee still applies, because bench time was genuinely spent.
Data recoveryAssessment fee, credited against recovery. No recovery fee if we recover nothing.
Old partsReturned to you on request, except lithium cells, which must go through licensed disposal.
IndependenceWe are not an authorised service centre for any manufacturer. If your machine is under manufacturer warranty, check with them first — our work may affect it, and we will say so.

The repairs other shops send away

A lot of what walks through our door has already been somewhere else. A customer is quoted for a whole new logic board, told the machine is "not economical to repair", or handed back with a shrug because the fault sits at a level the previous shop does not work at. Board-level repair is a different trade from parts fitting, and most retail counters — reasonably enough — are set up for the latter. Because we are an independent workshop rather than a parts-swapping counter, we can take on the jobs that get referred away.

The pattern repeats across brands. A MacBook that will not power on is often a single failed rail or a charging IC, not a dead board. A dim or black display is frequently a backlight fuse or a driver line rather than a new panel — the 2016–2017 MacBook Pro FlexGate display-cable fault is a well-documented example where the cure is a cable, not a S$700 assembly. A Windows machine that trips on the mainboard can hide a shorted capacitor worth a few cents. Liquid-damaged boards that others write off regularly come back to life after proper ultrasonic cleaning and the replacement of one or two corroded components. None of this is magic; it is schematics, measurement and a steady hand at the microscope.

Independence is the reason we can offer it honestly. We are not an authorised service centre for Apple or any brand, and that is deliberate: an authorised channel is generally required to replace an assembly rather than repair the component inside it, and to source parts through one supply chain. We can quote a component-level fix, source panels and batteries from more than one supplier, and — just as importantly — tell you when a machine genuinely is not worth the board work and your money is better spent on recovering the data and moving on. The same independence means that if your device is still under manufacturer warranty, we will say so and suggest you check with the maker first, because our work may affect that cover.

Devices and faults we handle

The bench is built around laptops and Apple hardware, but the underlying skills — power-path diagnostics, micro-soldering, controlled data imaging — carry across most modern devices. If you are not sure whether something is in scope, send us a photo and two lines about the symptom; a quick answer costs you nothing.

Laptops, every brand

Windows and gaming laptops from Dell, HP, Lenovo, ASUS, Acer, MSI and Microsoft Surface, plus the full MacBook range — Air, Pro, Retina and Apple silicon. From single-part fits to component-level board work.

Power and charging faults

No power, no boot, dead after a firmware update, will not charge, or drains on standby. We trace the rail that is missing rather than guessing at the assembly, and only quote once we can point at the cause.

Screens and display circuits

Cracked panels, dim or flickering displays, backlight failures, dead pixels and hinge damage — handled as a panel replacement or a board-level repair, whichever the fault actually calls for.

Batteries and thermals

Swollen or short-runtime cells, sudden shutdowns, throttling and loud fans. We handle battery replacement and thermal service, and isolate pressurised lithium packs safely on arrival.

Liquid damage

Coffee, water, or a spilt drink. The board is opened, ultrasonically cleaned and inspected under the microscope, corroded components are replaced, and we state the corrosion caveat in writing before we start.

Data recovery

Files behind a dead machine, a failing SSD or a drive that will no longer mount. Imaged on an air-gapped workstation with hardware write blockers — see our data recovery service. No recovery, no recovery fee.

We also work on Apple devices beyond the MacBook — iMac, iPhone and iPad — on the same bench and to the same rules: a written quote before a screw turns, data secured before irreversible work, and a written warranty on every completed repair.

Nash was super efficient while staying laid back. Didn't need to sign any form when depositing the laptop for a battery replacement. Got the device back after a couple hours as they promised. Receipt was sent promptly via WhatsApp. Will come back the next time I have an issue with my MacBook!

Questions we get every week

About us, answered properly

Where are you located and do I need an appointment?

Our workshop is at 6 Harper Road, Leong Huat Building, #05-02, Singapore 369674, minutes from the CBD and directly reachable by MRT and bus. Walk-ins are welcome during opening hours — Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 7pm — and no appointment is needed for diagnostics. Messaging us first is still worth two minutes: if you tell us the model and the symptom, we can have the part on the shelf and the right bench free before you arrive.

Do you offer collection and delivery?

Yes, islandwide. Customers in Jurong East, Bukit Batok, Clementi, Queenstown, Woodlands, Yishun, Ang Mo Kio, Bishan, Toa Payoh, Novena, Orchard, Hougang, Punggol, Tampines and Bedok regularly use it, and it is the right choice for any machine with a swollen battery or a failing drive that should not be jostled on a bus. Courier collection is arranged by WhatsApp and the fee is quoted before we book it.

How much is diagnostics?

Free on arrival for the visual inspection, power-path check and symptom reproduction that resolve most walk-ins. Chargeable, and credited against the repair, for bench diagnostics that require opening the machine, tracing the board, or imaging a failing drive. You are told the figure before we start, every single time. Nothing is opened without your agreement.

What does 'no fix, no fee' actually mean here?

You never pay a repair fee for a repair we did not complete. If we agreed a diagnostic or assessment fee in writing before we opened your machine, that fee stands, because it pays for bench time that was genuinely spent. If we agreed no fee and we cannot fix it, you owe us nothing and you get your laptop back in the state it arrived, with an explanation of what we found. We would rather tell you a machine is not worth repairing than take your money to prove it.

What warranty do I get?

Every completed repair carries a written warranty on parts and workmanship, printed on your job sheet with its term stated. It covers the part we fitted and the work we did. It does not cover new physical damage, new liquid ingress, faults in unrelated components, or the progression of corrosion in a machine that arrived already corroded — a risk we always state in writing before starting a liquid job. See the full warranty terms below.

Are you an authorised Apple, Dell or HP service centre?

No, and we say so plainly on every page. We are an independent repair workshop. That independence is the reason we can repair a logic board rather than being required to replace it, source panels and batteries from more than one supply chain, and quote a component-level fix where an authorised centre must quote an assembly. It also means that if your machine is under manufacturer warranty, you should check with the manufacturer first, because our work may affect that warranty. We will tell you if we think you should take it to them instead.

Will my data be safe while you have my laptop?

We do not browse customer data. Where a repair requires the machine to boot, we ask for a password and we ask you to remove anything sensitive first if you would prefer. Where storage must be imaged, it is imaged on an air-gapped workstation and securely erased after you collect. Recovery jobs are handled by technicians under a signed confidentiality undertaking. If you need a formal NDA, bring one.

How experienced are your technicians?

Our board-level technicians have spent years at the microscope, and the workshop has been repairing laptops in Singapore for over a decade. More useful than any certificate: we hold schematics and boardviews for the platforms we work on, we run bench power supplies, thermal cameras, preheaters, hot-air and micro-soldering stations, ultrasonic cleaning and hardware write blockers, and we photograph what we find and show it to you. Ask any shop to show you the fault. The answer is informative.
